Combimate is a user-friendly domestic limescale prevention device that uses Combiphos to deliver guaranteed prevention of limescale and soft water corrosion water control, with no moving parts.
Tried and tested – Combiphos is a polyphosphate compound specifically developed to provide the most effective limescale prevention in flow-through installations. Polyphosphate dosing has been safely used to treat water throughout the world for many years.
Note: Combiphos does not soften water and its effectiveness may be reduced in water heated to temperatures above 60 degrees, in water with carbonate hardness levels above 360 ppm or at pH levels below 6.5.
Combiphos is 100% food grade material approved by the FAO/WHO and compliant with the European normative standard BS EN 1208, that prevents scale build-up and soft water corrosion in combination boilers and other domestic hot water appliances.
Health and safety – Combiphos is tasteless and odourless and contains a polyphosphate compound which is classified by the WHO as a ‘food-grade’ additive. The quantity, size and hardness of the spheres control the amount of Combiphos released. Typically this is less than 3 ppm (parts per million) of phosphate in treated water and perfectly safe for human consumption.
There are two installations options when fitting Combimate: whole-house supply or single appliance protection.
Whole-house supply – For this installation Combimate should be plumbed in after the stop-valve on the cold water supply to the premises. The white removable divider tray should be removed from inside the Combimate dome in a whole house installation so that the dome can be completely filled with Combiphos (the full 800g bag contents).
Single appliance – Combimate can be used to protect a single appliance by placing it on the cold water supply to that appliance (e.g. a boiler), in which case the red removable divider tray should be left in place and Combiphos should only be put in the top half of the dome. This reduces the amount of Combiphos required for annual topping-up (in this situation, the 800g bag will last two years).
Combimate can be installed in various configurations, allowing maximum flexibility of pipework configurations.
Inlet and outlet connections use 15mm or 22mm compression fittings (depending on the model). There is minimal pressure or flow rate loss through Combimate. Vertical, top and bottom entry pipework can be used which ensures easy retrofit installation. Combimate should be installed at least 0.5 metre from any local sources of heat, such as boilers or hot water pipes.
A protective outer cover is fitted to complete Combimate installation.
Combimate is filled with the appropriate amount of Combiphos which, when in contact with water, is released in very small quantities, sufficient to keep the mineral ions in suspension.
This action prevents the formation of scale while retaining the health benefits of the natural minerals contained in hard water. Combiphos coats the inside of the pipework, boiler heat exchanger and appliances with a non-residual, microscopic, protective coating to prevent scale-causing minerals from accumulating and aggressive soft water from corroding the system and appliances.
Here is a selection of documents, designed to ease specification and installation:
Parts only warranty (no labour) for equipment purchased in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Components of the unit which are proven to be faulty or defective in manufacture will be exchanged or repaired.

Lifetime Scale Prevention Guarantee
To register and qualify for Extended Warranty cover, the Combimate limescale prevention device and Combiphos must be correctly installed as itemised in the Installation Guide (included with the product).
Additional warranty details must be provided to enable registration: product serial number, installation date, installation site address, boiler make/age and level of protection (single appliance or whole house supply).
Extended Warranty can be registered online (via the Warranty section of this website) or by completing and returning the FREEPOST card from the Installation Guide (included with the product).
Combiphos refills must also be registered annually (for whole house supply protection applications, using a full 800g bag of Combiphos every 12 months), or bi-annually (for single appliance protection applications, using half a bag of Combiphos every 12 months, i.e. 400g), as appropriate.
Combiphos refills must be registered within 4 weeks of replacement in the Combimate unit. For whole house supply protection applications, this replacement should be carried out within 13 months of the last Combiphos refill.
Combiphos refills can be registered online (via the Warranty section of this website) or by completing and returning the appropriate “date of refill” label (from the set of labels included with the product) to this address: Cistermiser Ltd, Unit 1, Woodley Park Estate, 59-69 Reading Road, Woodley, Berkshire RG5 3AN.
A copy invoice for a new boiler or heat exchanger must be provided on application for the Lifetime Scale Prevention Guarantee.
The Combimate limescale prevention device and Combiphos must be correctly installed and additional warranty details provided to enable registration (as itemised in the Extended Warranty Terms above).
Registration must be completed within 30 days of installation.
Combiphos refills must also be registered annually or bi-annually, as appropriate (as itemised in the Extended Warranty Terms above).
If scale contamination becomes evident within 12 months of the last Combiphos refill, a one-off payment of up to £500 may be payable in full and final settlement.
Lifetime Scale Prevention Guarantee can be registered online (via the Warranty section of this website) or by completing and returning the FREEPOST card from the Installation Guide (included with the product).
